Sometimes it is hard to get your kids to eat cottage cheese. I was one of those kids. So my parents came up with a way to get me to eat cottage cheese by making Cottage Cheese Doughnuts.
Now it it my turn to make those to get my 3 year old to eat some cottage cheese and she loves doughnuts, win-win situation. 🙂
The recipe is easy to follow, requires just a few ingredients and provides for some quality time cooking together with your little ones.

Cottage Cheese Doughnuts
Equipment
- Mixing bowl
- Deep sauce pan
- Hand Blender (optional)
Ingredients
- 250 grams cottage cheese
- 100 grams white granulated sugar
- salt, to taste
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- 2 large eggs
- 250 grams all-purpose flour
- 400 ml vegetable oil (for frying)
- 100 grams powdered sugar (for serving)
Instructions
- Place the cottage cheese, sugar and eggs into a deep bowl and blend with a hand blender until well combined and cottage cheese blended into a uniform mixture.
- Combine flour with baking soda and mix through. Add the flour mixture into the cottage cheese mix and mix with a wooden spoon or your hands until well combined. You will have a rough dough forming.
- Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead until the dough is smooth, soft and just a little bit sticky.
- You might need more or less flour, depending on the flour and the type of cottage cheese.
- Place the oil in a deep sauce pan or frying pan and place over medium heat to warm up.
- While the oil is warming up, split the dough into 40 equal pieces and roll each into a small ball.
- Place the prepared dough balls onto a big boards and cover with a towel until oil is warm enough.
- Carefully drop one of the dough balls into the hot oil to see if the oil is hot enough. The oil should sizzle around the ball and the dough ball will rise to the surface.
- Add a few more dough balls to the oil and fry on all sides until cooked through. Insert a toothpick into the center to see if it cooked through, the toothpick should come out clean and with ease.
- Do not over crowd the pan, otherwise the doughnuts might not turn by themselves.
- Transfer the cooked doughnuts onto a paper towel to absorb excess oil and fry the rest of the dough balls.
- Dust the doughnuts with powdered sugar and serve warm.
- Enjoy!
