Equipment

  • Frying Pan
  • Mixing bowl

Ingredients

For the sauce:

  • 1 tablespoon Hoisin Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Oyster Sauce (can be replaced with 1½ tablespoons Hoisin Sauce)
  • 1 tablespoon Rice wine (or Chinese cooking wine, dry sherry or sake)
  • 2 ½ tablespoons dark soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons sesame oil
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly ground pepper

For the stir fry:

  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 500 grams beef mince (can also be mixed)
  • ¼ cup parsley, finely chopped (plus more for garnish)
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seed, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  • Heat up oil in the frying pan.
  • In a small mixing bowl, mix together soy sauce, hoisin sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, pepper, sesame oil and rice wine. Set aside.
  • Once the oil is hot, add the chopped onions and minced garlic.
Fry for about 1 minute, or until the onion starts browning.
  • Add the minced beef, breaking it into smaller pieces.
  • Once the beef has changed its color to brown, add the sauce.
Cook for another 2-3 minutes, or until the sauce has almost fully incorporated.
If you want the meat cooked further, add a bit of water, and cook until desired readiness.
  • Add the chopped parsley, but keep a bit for serving.
Add the sesame seeds, if desired. I like them, as they add a little pop to the dish. =)
  • Serve over rice.
    Enjoy!
