Lazy Cabbage Rolls

Easy to make, absolutely delicious. A lazy version of famous Romanian Sarmale rolls, or Russian Golubzi. Made with cabbage and minced meat, these lazy rolls will be the star of your dinner table.

Chop the cabbage into fine strips, or as fine as you can make it.

Chop the onions.

Peel and shred the carrots, on the small shredder.

Heat up 2 frying pans on medium heat.

Add 2 tablespoons of oil into each frying pan.

Split the chopped onions equally between the two frying pans, and fry for about 2 minutes.

To one frying pan add the minced meat and to the second one chopped cabbage.

Season both cabbage and meat with salt and pepper. You can add any other desired spices to the meat, if you want.

Heat up the oven to 180°C (350°F). Add 2 tablespoons oil to the baking dish. Set aside.

Fry the cabbage, stirring often, for about 10 – 15 minutes, or until it is almost cooked through.Take off the heat.

Fry the meat for about 5-8 minutes, or until golden brown.

Add the shredded carrots to the meat and fry for another 2 minutes. Add the rice. Mix until well combined.

Take off the heat.

Put ⅓ of cabbage into the baking dish and spread in an even layer.

Place all of the minced meat mixture over the cabbage layer and spread evenly.

Spread the remainder of the cabbage on top of the meat mix. Spread evenly.

Pour the tomato mix all over the cabbage.

Bake for 15 minutes.

After 15 minutes, cover with aluminium foil and bake for another 15-20 minutes.

Serve with sour cream and fresh parsley.

  • 500 grams white cabbage
  • 500 grams minced meat (pork or beef or mixed)
