Belgian Waffles

Belgium, a great country with great food, amazing chocolate and so much beer. πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ When I was in Belgium, I tried the best chocolate, hot chocolate and of course waffles that I ever had. Since then I purchased a waffle iron and started making them myself. Of course they are not exactly the same, but like any other recipe, everyone adds a unique touch to every recipe.

Below is my favorite Belgian waffle recipe. Hope you will enjoy it too.

I have a Tefal Snack Collection Iron with waffle inserts, but you can find a similar waffle maker here.

My waffle iron has a light indicator which turns green when the waffles are cooked through. About 5 minutes.

Belgian waffles are a great dessert, or as breakfast. Enjoy!

Equipment

  • Waffle Iron

Ingredients

  • 2ΒΌ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 3 tablespoons white granulated sugar
  • Β½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 large eggs separated
  • Β½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Preheat your waffle iron, spray with cooking spray, or as I did brush with some oil.
  • In a large bowl combine flour, baking powder, sugar, salt and cinnamon. Whisk through until mixed well.
  • In another bowl, using a hand mixer, beat egg whites until stiff peaks form. Set aside.
  • In a third bowl whisk together egg yolks, vegetable oil, milk and vanilla extract.
  • Add the wet ingredients (egg yolk mixture) into the dry ingredients and mix thoroughly.
Carefully fold in the egg whites. I added the egg whites in two additions, mixing well after each addition.
  • Pour enough batter into the preheated waffle iron to cover the surface, close and cook according to the manual instructions.
  • Serve immediately with your favorite topping, whipped cream, honey, berries, icing sugar and so on.
    Enjoy!
